I have always taken my dogs to Dr. Palmer. He is the best bet ever. He has stayed on two occasions to take care of pets that had been hurt in fights. He takes great care of my dogs!

Have taken our pets to Countryview for about 2 decades. Drs Palmer and Antes have always been very caring, concerned, interested, and compassionate to our pets' needs. The vet tech and office staff have always been friendly and personable. We really like these vets and the staff!

I live in New Bern and I drive all the way there 4-5 times a year for my animals. Staff is always super nice. Dr. Palmer really knows his stuff. Would recommend to anyone who needs a great vet.

Help cat that was injured . had to have a leg removed but didn't hurt much due topainkillers and antibiotics

This past week, Countryview Animal Hospital spayed my cat. I dropped my cat off Tuesday morning, as I was told to do, and they would perform the spay that day, and I would pick up Wednesday evening. I never received a call Tuesday to let me know how the surgery went. I used to work at an animal hospital several years ago, and it was standard procedure there to contact a client to notify them that the surgery was complete and how the surgery went. Wednesday afternoon I took it upon myself to call Countryview and inquire about my cat. The receptionist I spoke with said the surgery went fine and I could pick up my cat that evening. I arrived around 5:30-5:45 on Wednesday, and the receptionist called me over to the window, told me about the pain medication my cat was prescribed, and told me what I owed. She did not offer to let me speak with the doctor. As I said before, I used to work at an animal hospital, and it was standard procedure there that when an animal has surgery and is picked up in the evening, the client/pet owner is put into an exam room and allowed to speak to the doctor, and the doctor lets the pet owner know if sutures need to be removed or not, how to care for the pet as they heal, and the expected healing time frame. I have yet to meet a doctor at this animal hospital. I had to ask the receptionist if I needed to return in X amount of days for suture removal. So, I paid my balance, they brought out my cat, and I got in my car and left. Not 5 minutes into my drive home, I smelled something HORRIBLE. Thinking to myself, she pooped in her carrier, poor thing, I'll take care of it when I get home. When I pulled in my driveway and opened the back door, my entire back seat was SATURATED with diarrhea. It was nothing but brown water. The smell was almost unbearable. I immediately got on the phone with the animal hospital. "I thought my cat was ok????", I asked the receptionist. I told her what just happened. She put me on hold for a long time, then came back to the phone and said my cat had not had a bowl movement since she arrived there!!!!! I asked her if that was the case, why did they send her home with me?? She responded that "we only keep them for one night". Ok, I get that, but if the animal just had surgery and has not had a bowel movement SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN THERE, I would think this would be something that needs to be monitored, OR, at the very least, the owner should have been notified when picking the animal up!!!! The receptionist even went so far as to say "we don't know how her bowel movements were before she arrived there, were they normal?" I would NOT have brought a sick cat to be spayed. She spoke with the doctor, and said the doctor said she likely had an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. Again, something I never was informed about. I have 3 other cats at home, all spayed/neutred, and again, I used to work at an animal hospital, and this has NEVER happened to me before. She offered to write me a prescription to come pick up, but I had to attempt to clean my vehicle. I ended up not going back because I wanted to see if my cat had a solid stool the next, and sure enough, she did. LONG STORY SHORT: ALL of this could have been avoided had I just been permitted a couple of minutes to meet and speak with the doctor, and had the staff alerted me to my cat not having a bowel movement. Now, the back seat of my car is ruined, and I will NEVER use this animal hospital again.
